Indian head massage

Indian Head massage techniques have evolved over many many years. Shampoo coming from the Hindi word for Champi meaning "head Massage". Increasing in popularity in the UK since 1981 a technique called Champissage was created.  Indian head massage concentrates on maintaining and improving health rather that treating pain and disease. This treatment not only works on the head but also the shoulders, arms, neck and face releasing tension that builds from poor posture as well as emotional and physical stress. It is thought that massaging the head increases the blood supply and allows thoughts to be come clearer due to an increase in oxygen.  This treatment can be done either on a low backed chair or on the therapy couch with or without oils.

Hot stone massage



This treatment is very grounding and unique form of massage. It uses both hot and cold stones to create a warming, earthy and deeply balancing treatment. Both basalt and marine stones are used , basalt stones are warmed and marine stones refrigerated. 
Both stones are incorporated into a Swedish massage routine where smooth flat stones are placed on specific parts of the body then the  therapist will incorporate the stones into the massage  giving the added benefit of greater intensity from the hot oiled stones and the cold stones reducing inflammation by cooling an area that may have injury.

Pregnancy massage

Pregnancy/prenatal massage allows for relaxation and promotes a womans' body to function well during the pregnancy. This massage will be similar to a routine massage and aimed at aiding relaxation and reducing stress. A large part of the massage will be done with the client lying on their side supported pillows as after the first trimester massage is no longer performed in the prone/ face down position to avoid putting pressure on the abdomen.  Many studies have shown that massage in pregnancy decreases depression , improved sleep, anxiety and there is a  reduction in both leg and back pain. Women who had regular massage during pregnancy report less postnatal depression and in one study their babies had lower levels of cortisol confirming the benefits to both mother and baby (Field 2023)
